John Shao Jiang Huang, Music Director
Our Music Director
John, Shao Jiang Huang is a
renowned performing artist on flute and dizi (Chinese bamboo flute).
He subsequently attained reputation as a young flute artist under the tutelage of
Tan Mi-Zi and Ling Ke-Min.
John received his Bachelor’s degree in flute performance from the
Shanghai Conservatory of Music and his Master’s degree from the
New England Conservatory of Music, Boston under legendary flute masters Claude Monteux and Julius Baker.
He also studied conducting under the authoritative conducting master,
Frank Pattisti.
Performance & Career Highlights
John was the principal flutist and the woodwind section leader in the
Shanghai Ballet Orchestra for sixteen years.
He was the principal flutist of the
Singapore Symphony Orchestra for fourteen years.
John
founded and directed the Singapore Flute Ensemble of which he is still the advisor.
He was a
prominent music educator at the National University of Singapore, Singapore Youth Orchestra, La Salle College of Fine Arts and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
Our prestigious and valued music director has also made concert appearances extensively throughout Asia, Europe, France, Canada and the United States.
